Mike Bennie, Wine Front - February 2017 Heathcote Region rating 9/10
Haven’t come across Redesdale Estate before, but here’s the wine that gave me whiplash. Beautiful expression here from their four hectare plot of vines. Hand picking, minimal intervention, no filtering, no fining, new and old oak from 12 months then rested – the pathway to glass. One of those wines that defies a regional imprint in a way. Must be a unique site. This is one to show off as your new discovery.
It’s harmonious and glorious in its drinking. Soft blackcurrant, black berry nip, olive compote and briar notes in perfume. Supple, satiny texture to taste – a long roll of sweetish dark fruits, concentrated but fresh, juicy yet hemmed in with freshening acidity and faintly chewy tannins. Finishes with sweet berry fruit and a twist of liquorice. Utterly delicious. Out of the box.
